Before I get hate about this review- I love the video game version of Minecraft. This Minecraft movie? Not at all!

Throughout the movie I kept on thinking- “how did we get here?” as the pacing and the plot were outright terrible at times. Hell even my most favorite part of the movie- the villager in the real world- was like watching someone do needless side quests! If I really delved into why it seemed too confusing at times was because of all the character stories. We had three groups of main characters if we don’t include the villager story line. By doing this the story really lacked as we couldn’t concentrate on one or two things in depth- we got three or four! I don’t like movies made in this way. I prefer to really delve into one thing over multiple!

Another thing that made me eye-roll more than once was the forced comedy. Whenever scenes like Lava Chicken and Chicken Jockey came up I rolled my eyes. To me these scenes came across as just for the memes instead of as scenes to just be funny. This lessened my overall opinion of this movie because it made the jokes come across as fake instead of natural- which I personally don’t vibe with. I understand it’s TikTok-able but it drags the rest of the movie down with it.

The last thing that really made it something I wish I can block out is its overall visual appearance. The humans literally thrown into a video game setting made it so very jarring and un-Minecraft like. These visuals reminded me of bad fan-made Minecraft green screen videos. I used to watch them as a kid, and they were free! Considering Minecraft Story mode also exists, the ticket prices feel like it is a rip off. This game was solidly animated AND had a good overall story unlike this multi-million dollar budget.

Overall, I really did not like this movie, except for the villager storyline, despite being the target audience!
