For the past three years I have been tracking my reading on Goodreads. As it has now been six months into this new year I would like to review this past couple of months of reading.

My goal

For this year my challenge is to read 52 books, or a book a week. As of reading, I am at 42 books which is 13 books ahead of schedule. So far this is amazing, and I did not intend to get this far ahead of schedule!

Within this time frame I also had two unofficial mini goals- try out audiobooks and read non-fiction for a month. They both went really well and I enjoyed the goals. Personally, I don’t really set goals outside of the year challenge so I thought to change it up a little. Read further for more of my unofficial mini goals.

Favourites of the first half

Sunrise on the Reaping- Suzanne Collins (Physical, Hardback)

Hunger Games has been a favourite series of mine since I was a teenager. Hell, today it is still one of my favourites. So if I told you this book delivered, this book delivered. I loved seeing the parallels between each game and each victor between books. This world was set up so many can lose, yet Haymitch won. To me that is really cool. I would definitely recommend to any fans of Hunger Games or dystopian novels.

A Life in Parts- Bryan Cranston (Audiobook, Audible)

Bryan Cranston has got to be one of my favourite celebrities of all time. He is witty, personable, and widely talented. This audiobook encompasses all of what he is and so much more which made listening to the audiobook an absolute joy. His personal take on his words adds to hearing about his past experiences. If you have any interest in Bryan Cranston, look no further than this book.

The House of My Mother- Shari Franke (Audiobook, Audible)

Being online for a lot, if not all, of my youth ment I gravitated towards YouTube. One of the channels I used to watch was 8 Passengers. Unfortunately, the channel was bright on the outside but was very dark beneath the service. This book was written by the oldest of the Franke kids- Shari. Throughout the book we get to hear about the abuse and all the other terrors that went undocumented to the world. Use this book as a bleak reminder that what we see online isn’t always what is real.

Any changes for the next six months?

I personally would like to slow down at some point but I don’t know when. Personally, I tend to float through 3 different hobbies and in the past couple of months I have floated to reading. Slowing down would hopefully mean less burnout for the future which would mean I can enjoy reading again.

I would like to have unofficial goals of dabbling into more genres of books I haven’t necessarily read before and reviewing John Green books. This is partly to reduce the likelihood of burn out but to also discover new authors and genres I might not knew I liked. I want to try things like historical fiction and romance first. Also, I want an excuse to review John Green books here.

Thank you for reading. Please feel free to leave any comments about your reading goals!
