With multiple entries in the series, Life is Strange can be a bit confusing timeline wise. I will hopefully make this a bit more clearer with this post. You can in play in any order-just be prepared for potential spoilers if not done chronologically!
Life is Strange: Before the storm
Set in 2010, it is set before the events of Life is Strange and is about Chloe Price. This shows of the story for Chloe and gives us more about this awesome character. We see the build up of events towards the beginning of the first game and why Chloe is Chloe. By playing this first, I would say Life is Strange 1 is a lot more heartbreaking.
Life is Strange
Life is Strange is set in 2013 and is the main fork for the series’ timeline. We get to see the true beginnings of this world and the things it has in store for us. After this game, the consequences of our actions really impact the wider world and the rest of the world. Even though Chloe Price does make an appearance, this game has Max Caulfield as the main protagonist. Max’s story is great and the story has a massive impact on emotions and the world.

Life is Strange 2
The timeline is now in 2016. It means that it isn’t a direct sequel, but a sequel no less. Brothers Daniel and Sean Diaz flees from their home town and still manages to stumble upon people and places from the first two games. These would be little spoilers but not too big of spoilers to worry about. Even because of this, I would play this after the first two games.
Life is Strange: True Colours
Three years later in 2019 we see Life is Strange True Colours. In True Colours we meet Alex Chen and explore the town of Haven Springs, Colorado. In my honest opinion, this game has the best story and powers. Within the game, the only references to past games is the side character Steph Gingrich. Therefore, if this is your first game there will be little to no spoilers for the three other games in this series.
Life is Strange Double Exposure
This is the latest installment in the series, and last chronologically. We are reunited as Max and now we see her as a teacher. Since we last saw her, her powers have grown. I think it was a good continuation despite all of its faults as a game. Because we play as Max again we get a lot of references to the original game too!
Thank you for reading this blog and I hope that you now know the timeline for the Life is Strange series. If you have learnt something please let us know!
TLDR: Life is Strange Before the Storm, Life is Strange, Life is Strange 2, Life is Strange True Colours, then Double Exposure.
