Hello! Today I’ll be writing about books that I think would be good as video games. Reading and gaming are both big parts of my everyday life, so I thought it would be fun to combine the two. Some stories just feel like they were made to be played, not just read. Here are a few book series that I believe would make amazing game adaptations.
Contender Series – Taran Matharu
For me, this series would be a great concept for a game. It’s a little like The Hunger Games, but with a more gamified storyline behind it. Cade and his friends have to figure out where they are and how to defeat enemies in battles to the death, which fits perfectly into a survival RPG or strategy game.
The concept also opens the door for fun side stories or alternative modes. For example, there could be a mode where you play as the antagonists, making life harder for the main characters. It would add a nice challenge for players and make replaying even more fun. Overall, the Contender Series would make an amazing puzzle-solving RPG filled with mystery, action, and teamwork.
Summoner Series – Taran Matharu
While reading the Summoner series, I couldn’t help but think of Pokémon and Harry Potter. It’s got a mix of both worlds: magical creatures you can summon (like Pokémon) and spellcasting in a fantasy school setting (like Harry Potter).
That combination would make an awesome fantasy adventure game. Players could collect and summon monsters, learn spells, attend a magical academy, and explore dangerous lands. The story is already so strong that it could easily translate into a full RPG. If adapted well, it would be an exciting mix of creature battles, magic, and strategy. Mimicking Pokémon-style gameplay would be a great choice since the monster system already fits so naturally.
The Gilded Ones – Namina Forna
This book was an incredible read, and I honestly think it would make a brilliant game. The world is full of action, training, and emotional depth. Players could experience fighting the deathshrieks, making allies, and training their powers—all while uncovering a deeper story.
While some of the characters’ emotional struggles might be hard to capture, it would still be amazing to see game writers give it a go. I imagine it feeling a bit like Life is Strange mixed with a traditional RPG adventure, where your choices and relationships really matter. It’s a world that deserves to be explored through gameplay, not just on the page.
Final Thoughts
Thanks for reading! I hope this post inspires some game developers to turn these amazing stories into actual games. These books already have strong worlds, characters, and action-packed plots—everything you need for great gameplay.
If you’re looking for books that would make great video games, the Contender Series, Summoner Series, and The Gilded Ones are perfect starting points. Who knows—maybe one day we’ll get to play them for real!
