As a nerd, reading is one of my favourite hobbies. I get to escape from reality and stay in my bedroom for a few hours! To combine my love of books and data, I would like to quickly review what I have read this year.
This year I read 20,474 pages over 66 books, for an average book length of 310 pages. My shortest book was Marvel Universe Iron Man, a comic at 64 pages long, and the longest book was a Shakespeare collection at 1,024 pages long. The average rating I gave ended up being 3.4/5.
Favourite book read: Sunrise on the Reaping. As someone who loves The Hunger Games series, this book did not disappoint. I love Suzanne Collins’ way of writing and how she can expand on her past stories too.
Least favourite book read: The Scorch Trials. I felt like this book was a big let-down after reading The Maze Runner. Even though I understood the direction the series wanted to go, I felt like the charm of the maze was lost. For me, if we had stayed in the maze, I would have enjoyed the book more.
Favourite series: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess manga series. Even though my favourite book isn’t in this series, it is still worth reading. Zelda has always been a series I’ve enjoyed playing, and this adapts it to the page well. I highly recommend it to gamers and readers.
Most read genres: Graphic novels and non-fiction.
What I want to change/keep next year: My goal is to keep up the reading but try to slow down to one book a week. I know 66 isn’t that much, but the extra reading did make a massive difference! My want to read through these last weeks of December has massively dwindled compared to the amount of reading done throughout the year. To combat this, slowing down should mean I have more energy at this time of year.
Thank you for reading my quick year-of-reading review. Let me know what your goals were for this year in the comments!
