This month turned into a surprisingly good reading month—I finished three very different books and couldn’t bring myself to pick just one to talk about. So instead, here are some quick thoughts on all of them! My ratings are definitely a mix of personal enjoyment and actual critique this month- so don’t take them too seriously!
Deadpool Affirmations
This book is full of inspiring, yet funny, quotes that can lift you up! Personally, I really liked the way that it doesn’t take itself seriously at all. Deadpool’s sense of humour shouldn’t work as affirmations, yet it worked so well. It’s the kind of book you can pick up for a quick laugh when you need it, which made it really enjoyable to dip in and out of.
I have given it a 5/5 star review only as I couldn’t put it any lower as I didn’t want to hurt my beloved Deadpool.
Days at the Morisaki Bookshop
In summary, this was a cute novel where not much happens. Our main character moves away from Tokyo and ends up living in her uncle’s bookstore. I really liked the thought of a street full of bookstores, and it was a great backdrop. Personally, I felt the pacing of the (barely existent) story was off. The middle section started to drag for me, as not much really happens until a new character is introduced, which finally brings some energy back into the story.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, so I gave it a 3/5 stars.
Hunger Games Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
I personally wouldn’t rate this as the best Hunger Games book, but I really did like it. Without being directly in the games, we still got to see one take place and how it ended up shaping the future games. We also get to see a young President Snow! Seeing a young President Snow was really interesting, especially watching how his mindset begins to form. It added a lot of depth to the world and made the original series feel even richer.
I gave it 5/5 stars—partly because I love the series, but also because it added so much extra depth to the world.
Thanks for reading! Let me know what you’ve been reading this month—I’m always looking for recommendations (especially if they’re as easy to get through as these!).
