My Week in London

Recently I went away on holiday to London for a week. This little post is going to be talking about what I did for the week! This is mainly talking about the shows I went to see and food I eat. If you’re not into that, it’s okay! Feel free to skip this blog post.

First night/day one

After work on Sunday I headed into London. I was originally going to go Monday- but changed my mind! Due to this, I stayed in Convent Garden before moving to Richmond. Bad planning on my part, I know. It was a chilled evening. I’m going to combine the first day here as I had no official plans for Monday!

Luckily I thought to not unpack the day before, so the morning was chilled. I had a full english breakfast and leisurly left the travelouge at just before noon. With three hours to kill before being able to get into Richmond Travelouge I went to my favourute place, Leicester Square. I got lost whilst eating M&M’s. Great times. Afterwards I messed around in central London, found myself at Richmond, fell onto my bed, then chilled the rest of the day. Best day in London so far!

This was most of the m+ms I got from Leicester Square

Day two

Me and my Unlce met up in London to see Operation Mincemeat. The show was extremely fun, and we both really enjoyed. Personally, I liked how five people were every character in the show. I don’t know how they made it work but they did. The songs were really good too! Unfortunately, it rained today so we couldn’t really do much else. The day was still fun and I would recommend seeing Operation Mincemeat!

Day Three

As it was raining ALL day again, I tried out a Bills breakfast. I had the big breakfast and pancakes on the side! It was delicious. I think Bills is a great restaurant, and the Richmond one was quiet.

The play of the day is The Cherry Orchard. I personally didn’t like the play. I’m not sure why but it just didn’t click for me despite everyone else seeming to enjoy it. I also paid for an extra which constituted of an Ice Cream and a programme. For an extra £10 ish this was worth it in my opinion.

I didn’t do much else due to the rain today so I went to chill in my hotel.

Day Four

This was the day I couldn’t wait to come. I went to see the book tour for Things I Took From the Dark by Reece Shearsmith. As this was in the evening I did:

  • A 3.5 mile walk taking in the scenery of Richmond. It was a really long walk and I saw amazing bridges!
  • Eat breakfast at Heisenberg Breakfast Co. It was alright food and the atmosphere was decent.
  • Eat lunch at Wagamama. It was my first time eating off the lunch menu and I liked this more than breakfast! I would recommend the Katsu Wrap if you eat meat.
  • Meal deal for dinner. It was a Waitrose one I didn’t really like. I prefer Tesco’s meal deals to be honest!

After this, Reece’s book tour time finally came around! It was the most fun I’ve had in a theatre in ages! I laughed so much at his first half. Genuinely- I think the man could be a standup comedian. He was so witty and so dry with his delivery I could watch him for hours. Jeremy Dyson interviewed him AND half my question got read out! I asked who inspired Ollie Plimsolls and it was an actual guy call Ollie Plimsolls. Apparently, the real Ollie acted just like his screen adaptation. It’s the highlight of my week! Maybe even my year!

Day Five

It pains me to admit it but I had post Reece depression. At least I had pancakes for breakfast!! It made a part of it go away!

I also saw Paranormal Activity on stage today. Before this I only watched the movie so it was a pleasent surprise for it to be on stage. The adaption to the stage ended up being amazing! The stage was split in two floors of a house with each character going between each floor. I was pessimistic at first about the horror elements, but they ended up thriving instead. There were moments I genuinely jumped out of my seat. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys horror.

Day Six

Today I saw two shows, the first was Oh Mary! What can I say about Oh Mary!? Would people come at me with pitch forks if I said I prefer this over Hamilton the musical? If they do I’ll be in exile. I felt it was short and sweet and didn’t overstay its welcome. With Hamilton I thought it could be a little shorter. So yes I did prefer Oh Mary! in the end.

The next show I ran too as it was still raining (no surprise there). It was a comedy show in Richmond and had Fern Brady as the headline. I forgot the name of the show but it was still good. I’m glad it was the last show as I laughed so much. My favourite comedian was Ben Pope. His thing about getting high in church was hilarious. It’s back in March I might go back.

End of six day trip

Unfortunately it had to end. Insert cries of sadness. I really enjoyed this week and am willing to book a week like this again next year. Upon reflection, my favourite part was seeing Reece Shearsmith. The book tour show was the best thing I’ve seen in quite a while!

I’ll end this post here. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
